Bio
I love helping children to succeed. As an exceptional teacher with 20 years of
experience and a certified counselor, I have worked with students from 5 to 18 years of age.
With my students, I am very patient, building upon their strengths, assisting them to
process new information, refresh their skills, and organize their work. There is
nothing more rewarding to me than to share the mutual joy with a child who understands
a concept for the first time!

Program
My approach to tutoring students is very empathetic and creative. I look at their
academic profile, but also their learning style and interests. I like to break down
difficult tasks, as in mathematics or any complex issues, into simple steps.
I use visual aids, graphic organizers, and many manipulative materials to help a
student understand information. Through getting to know what is important to a child,
I can design a goal for the child and find an appropriate reward for progress based
on effort and ability. A particular area of expertise for me is working with
children in specialized programs for students in need of support.
I believe that I can inspire your child to succeed through an improvement in
academic skills and an increase in self-confidence. I am eager to meet your child.

Background
Through my work experience I feel that I understand the challenges of each grade level.
I have taught at a number of elementary schools with diverse populations and economic
backgrounds. I can teach all elementary subjects and have extensive experience
teaching all subjects at the middle school level. My forte is teaching math, science,
creative writing, and social studies. As part of the Adult Education program, I taught
psychology to students who dropped out of high school and received their high school
diplomas. As a counselor at the middle school level, I excelled in high school planning. As Career Coordinator, I began and developed a Career Day for 400 eighth graders.
I enjoyed several memorable experiences as part of my teaching career.
For many years I was the theatrical producer of plays, often written by my students.
I loved being a basketball coach for a girls’ team and the baseball coach for an
undefeated boys’ team. A few years ago I was thrilled to walk the Civil War battlefields
with my colleagues as part of the Teach American History project. Currently, I am a
mentor for a fourth grade boy who was my student when he was in kindergarten.

Rates & Travel Policy
As a mother of four, I am very aware of the costs of raising a family.
My basic rate is $25 per session.
I give a discounts for multiple sessions per week.
I live in Bethany, but am willing to travel to distances within a 20 mile
radius of my home. If the commute is on the long side and requires traveling
on highways during peak commuter times, I may charge an additional $5 for travel expenses.
We can negotiate the total cost.
